Charlton Community Football League

CHILDREN from eight schools took part in a football tournament aimed at forging links between youngsters from different areas.

Ed Price, who organised the Charlton Community Football League, said the event had been a big success.

Matches were played on Thursday evenings at the Meridian Sports Ground in Charlton Park Lane and the final attracted more than 200 children and adults.

Mr Price, the PE co-ordinator at Charlton Manor Primary School in Hornfair Road, said: “Once again the players showed great spirit and excellent behaviour.

“All the players had great respect for each other, shaking hands after every game but at the same time playing with passion. Roll on next year.”

The teams were from Charlton, Woolwich and Eltham.

For the second year running the tournament was sponsored by housing association Charlton Triangle Homes (CTH) and supported by Charlton Athletic FC.

St Mary Magdalene School in Kingsman Street, Woolwich, emerged the victors in the A team category and Cherry Orchard School in Rectory Field Crescent, Charlton, were the winning B team.

Nigel Pierce, from CTH, said: “There have been many new friendships forged across our community because of this league.”
