Harriers’ youngsters come home fifth in opening meeting

SHAFTESBURY BARNET HARRIERS’ youngsters had to settle for fifth place in the opening meeting of the season in Southern League North Division One of the under-13 and under-15 United Kingdom Youth Development League in Basildon on Saturday.
Although the Harriers trailed in some way behind event winners Havering, there were still a number of fine individual performances, with Nabil Haque winning the boys’ under-15 shot (10.90metres) and finishing runner-up in the 100m (12.40seconds).
Saleh Al-Minji ensured that the club picked up maximum points in the shot in this age group by taking the B-string competition (9.15m), in addition to his triumph in the B-string 80m hurdles (14.20secs).
There was also a double victory at B-string level from Adam Shiret in the 800m (2minutes 17.90secs) and the long jump (4.84m), while Abbas Adejonwo took the A-string 200m (24.80secs).
Jamie Harper (A-string 1,500m in 4mins 41.60secs) claimed the only victory for the under-13 boys, while Sian Sinclair impressed for the under-15 girls as she won the B-string 200m (28.30secs) and finished runner-up in the A-string high jump (1.35m).
There were also second-placed finishes in this age group at A-string level for Emma Babalola in the 100m (13.80secs) and Abi Ogunbodede in the javelin (16.18m).
Gabriella Murray-Panay emerged victorious in the under-13 girls’ A-string javelin (17.70m).
