KEVIN Pietersen intends to use his two-and-a-half week spell with Surrey to rediscover top form ahead of England’s Ashes campaign this winter.

The big-hitting batsman, 30, joined the South London side this week on a short-term loan deal from Hampshire.

An agreement was reached between Surrey, Hampshire and the ECB to enable Pietersen to get match practice at the Oval, following his exclusion from England’s squad for the one-day and Twenty20 games against Pakistan.

“It’s a wonderful chance for me to sort my game out for a very exciting winter,” said Pietersen, who has endured one of the most difficult spells of his career this summer.

“Our two four-day games will be ideal preparation. The England selectors want me to be playing four-day cricket. It’s difficult to go into Tests if you’re not at the top of your form."
