Rapist jailed – 22 years after attack
Monday, 09 April 2012
A RAPIST who broke into his victim’s home to attack her nearly 22 years ago has been jailed.
Milton White, 46, of Ellison House, Albany Road, Camberwell, attacked the 60-year-old victim in her north London home in the early hours of May 14, 1990.
The victim woke up to discover White in her bedroom. She challenged him, but he placed his hand over her mouth and raped her.
Earlier that evening the victim had been to a casino in the Mayfair area of central London and had won in the region of £1,500.
Following the attack, White rifled through her clothes, making off with £1,200 of her winnings. After he left, the victim raised the alarm with neighbours.
Extensive enquiries at the time failed to trace him. But, following a review of this case by the Cold Case Sapphire Team, a DNA match to White was found.
A review of fingerprints taken at the time also put him at the scene of the crime.
On November 15 last year, White was arrested at Southwark Police Station on suspicion of rape. He was charged with rape and burglary and was remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 16.
On Thursday, he was sentenced at the Old Bailey to 12 years for the rape and four years for the burglary – both to run concurrently.
The victim would have been 82 today but died in 2006 before her victim had been brought to justice.
Detective Constable Andy Beete from the Cold Case team said: “I am pleased with the result.
“It is deeply sad that the victim is no longer with us, but I hope her family are able to take some comfort in the result.”
