BYRON Webster literally made the “Most” of playing abroad - because that was the name of the club he played for.
The Lions centre-back got his football education in the Czech Republic town of Most, 60 miles north-west of Prague, during two years in a footballing exile with Banik Most, in the Czech First League.
It was a tough experience - but it revived his flagging love for the game and he has never looked back.
Without it, he might not have had the career he has had.
At the time, he had negotiated a release from his York City contract after the arrival of Colin Walker, and found it hard to commit to the game.
“I went there because, if I am
honest, I wasn’t that bothered about carrying on my football career,” he said. “I had nothing to lose by going out there.
“But it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made.
“When you are young, you are obsessed with football. When it
doesn’t work out, you have to deal with that disappointment.
